I did a thing recently. I booked a solo trip to Savannah, Georgia for my birthday It reminded me of just how much I missed traveling … alone. I’ve always preferred taking solo trips, but I hadn’t really traveled much since the pandemic, and it felt good to be out again. I learned a long ago that if I waited on my friends, family, or significant others, I would never get to see the world. So, I stopped waiting and started booking trips. Just me and my luggage hopping in and out of trains, airplanes, and cars.

I’m always down for a girl’s or group trip or baecation from time to time but I’m selective about who I travel with. Traveling with someone is an intimate experience and you learn a lot about another person when you go away with them.

Traveling solo brings me joy because of the freedom it gives me to control my own schedule and wander at my own pace. I feel brave navigating the world on my own. If I decide to spend three hours walking around an art museum or all day laying on the beach, that’s my business.

I can pretty much do whatever I wanna do within the parameters of local, state, and federal laws. I wake up and go to sleep when I get ready, eat wherever I want (no need to deliberate or do a group vote) and pick the sights that I want to see and nix the ones I don’t. No compromising. I get to be deliciously selfish with my time and energy…
