The Older I Get the More I Realize That People Are People
I’m old enough to remember what the world was like before the Internet and social media gave everyone with a wi-fi connection insight in the lives of celebrities, politicians, athletes, and regular folks.
There’s never a shortage of opinions, think pieces, podcasts, and comments from the outside world on what’s happening with the citizens of planet Earth especially the more famous ones. Some of this content is valid and educational and some is a bit mean-spirited and messy.
The 24–7 cycle of noise and news can be exhausting. But as a communicator and a writer, I don’t want to completely shut myself off to the world. There are still things I want to know about to shape my personal and professional growth. I still want to be informed … just not about everything and everybody.
One of the best filters I use to cut down on a lot of the Internet, social media and day-to-day noise is by pausing and asking myself one question; “Is this any of my business?”
If not, I scroll on without complaining or explaining in the comments as to why I’ve decided to just mind my business.
I’ve also lived long enough to know that people are people. It doesn’t matter how much money, fame or influence they have. We all stumble through break ups, bad decisions, and moments…
